Any of you fans of Food Network? I love that channel and the website! When I was a kid I always pretended I was Julia Child and would talk to my pretend camera everytime I was in the kitchen cooking or baking. I would even "host" demonstrations to my family, of course the only person I could convince to sit in was my youngest sister and her dolls ;) But at least my dad would always try what I made even if I misread the directions and added salt for sugar or the one time I made chocolate rice pudding and burned the rice but my dad still ate a whole bowl and told me it was good. Dads are the best. Good thing as I got older though I learned how to double check recipes and throw out things if I messed up instead of trying to pretend it was a gourmet dish!
So naturally The Next Food Network Star is one of my favorite shows on TV. After watching this last season of Next Food Network Star, I decided to tune into Aarti's Party. Too bad we got rid of cable a few weeks after her show started so I don't have DVR anymore and can no longer watch her or any food network shows. But really that is beside the point. Anyway on one of the episodes I watched she made this dish out of quinoa that looked so good. I decided I needed to try it and since I have never made quinoa before I figured it was a good opportunity to try something new. It was so good! Here is the recipe if you all want to try it. I didn't make it in lettuce cups and I used lemon instead of grapefruit cause that is what I had on hand and I served it with a Crock-pot Curry Chicken dish. Have I mentioned my new found love for crock-pots? If not I should. I love my crock pot and I love changing oven or stove dishes into crock pot ones. I love that I can just throw everything in one pot and leave it there for the day, then at dinner time all I have to do is make a side dish or dessert or both.
Do you all have any good quinoa recipes? I still have some left and would love to try it another way.
Here is a picture of the quinoa in lettuce cups (from the web, since I didn't make it that way or take a picture of it when I did make it), so good:
Kelley! I want to love my crock pot but so far it has not loved me back--any gold star recipes you can send this way?!
ReplyDeletep.s. So fun to read about you and your sweet family! I'm excited for you guys.
