I know I have been talking for weeks about LB being sick and I'm sure you all are tired of hearing about it. But I really just thought it was just a cold from the weather going from 70* to 20* in two days. I figured he would get over it once the weather picked a temperature and stayed there. Needless to say it was not just a cold but a sinus infection on the brinks of becoming an ear infection. I finally called the doctor on Thursday and took him in. Seriously felt like the worst mom because he had a 102.2* fever when they checked and I had no clue. I mean I guessed something was wrong because he woke up at 2am the night before and would not go to bed and was super cuddly all day long but I did not suspect a fever at all. We even checked it twice and it was only 99*. You think I'd know he had a fever but the little guy is always warm to the touch and he is still just as playful with a fever. Even the nurse commented on how happy he looked for having such a high temp. I guess it is a good thing I finally took him in and got everything checked over.
But now he is on the dreaded pink medicine. I really do not like that stuff. I even asked the doctor if there was any way we could treat without the drugs, but she said since he has been fighting it for three weeks now and has a high fever we had to do drugs. Boo.
Here is what LB thinks of it:
He locks his jaw and seals his lips as tight as he can. It is quite funny and I don't blame him that stuff is gross. Unless your my husband who actually likes the taste of it but he also enjoys black licorice so he is not the best judge of taste. (Sorry if you also love black licorice but being honest and all I think it taste gross) So yes, it is quite the fight to get the medicine now. Any tips out there experienced pink medicine moms?
My other least favorite part of the medicine are all the dreaded blow outs. Yesterday he had such a horrible one I wanted to throw him in the tub, but couldn't because hubs was knee deep in fixing our kitchen sink so I had no hot water. Instead I used a billion wipes and soapy wash clothes to wipe LB clean. I am stuffing him full of probiotics in hopes that it curbs a little bit of the liquid poo. We will see if they start working, but no luck yet. Oh and apparently another side effect is projectile vomiting and we had our fair share of that one last night. Although W thinks it is due to the broccoli he tried and "choked" down but I really think its from the medicine. In any case I am glad we were in our kitchen which is one of the only rooms without carpet and that LB projected on W's feet not mine!
I hate to end my post talking about bodily fluids but really that's been whats going on in my house the last 4 days and will probably be what is going on for the next week. Try hard not to be too envious of me! :)
I'm worried we will be on the pink stuff next! I am hoping Target can add some flavoring to it! Hang in there!!
ReplyDeletebummer. I wish I had some advice for you but we are rarely ever sick here and on top of that Lo LOVES any medicine. It is ridiculous, she wants to take meds even when she is well. She is a nut. Probably all the colic water, gas drops and tummy meds she got as a newborn. :/
ReplyDeletePraying he gets well soon. I hate blowouts. Micah has been "blessing" me w/ those, I totally forgot how gross that is.
So this isn't from a pink medicine mom, but from a pediatric nurse, pinch those cute little cheeks...put the medicine in the back of his mouth and blow in his face. (it helps if he is laying down) The blowing causes a swallow reflex. Works about 90% of the time. =)
ReplyDeleteWow, that's tough! I hope little LB gets better quickly.
ReplyDeleteI love the Periodic table idea! :) Have you seen the Periodic t-shirts at Urban Outfitters?

I don't think you can get them online but I just saw them in the store last weekend.
I'm really sory! You've gotten your paycheck for this week of being a mom right? I know it seems hard now, but can you imagine this with TWO? I try to think of that when Gooner is difficult and then I'm thankful that i have one. :) Although, the neighbor stopped by to play with Gooner and said that we should have ten babies. ha.
ReplyDeleteI will have to remember that trick from Laurisa.. and PS I think the amoxicillin tastes good too. Haha. Love ya!!
ReplyDeleteI like the pink medicine and LOVE black licorice. When I was a kid I told my mom I had an ear ache just to get the pink stuff.
ReplyDeleteHope you don't have too many late nights!
Sounds like things are rough! Hope he's better soon. It's so hard when babies are sick. I can still remember the taste of that medicine from when I was a kid. Blech! We had to give it to Celia once last year, and as soon as I smelled it I had instant memories of childhood.
ReplyDeleteQ loves all and any medicine, including nasty cough syrup. I think he's a crazy kid. He even happily takes his liquid vitamins/omega 3 oil combo which smell like vomit (gross huh?) - one thing about probiotics/antibiotics, are you making sure to give them at opposite times of the day? You might try amping up the yogurt intake if he likes it. Get a good natural one with only yogurt and cultures, no crazy sugars and stuff...
ReplyDeleteLA is right - blowing will work, as will pinching his nose so he opens his mouth. Be sure to aim it down the side of the cheek, not straight down his throat, or he will lurch it back at you. And be glad he is not as old as Anna and able to argue with you about it. :) Of course, I was finally able to reason with her..."Anna you can either lick this spoon clean or I will hold you down and shove this syringe down your throat." She chose wisely. :) Sorry little guy is sick, the anti-biotics should take of it pretty quick! And keep doing the probiotics, that will help a lot with the other. And keep him from getting a horrible diaper rash.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Sally wants to make that Periodic table for babies! Did you see her comment to the one you made?
