I may or may not have bought the wrong kind of coffee off Amazon. See I saw this great deal on what I thought were K-cups so I went ahead and bought them. When they arrived the packaging was really weird but I still didn't think twice about it. So I opened the first box of hazelnut flavored coffee and to my surprise they were individually wrapped. YOU would think at this point I would have connected the dots that they were in fact not K-cups but still I proceed to open the first individual package and to my surprise they were pods. Well at this point I had teared apart too much of the package to return them so we were stuck with not one but THREE boxes of hazelnut coffee pods. We asked around and no one we know has a pod coffee maker. So we began thinking what can we do with these pods. The only easy solution we came up with was tearing each pod apart and pouring it into a coffee container to scoop out and use for drip coffee.
I also decided to try and make a cold-brew iced coffee with it. It has a great hazelnut flavor, the cold-brew method brings out the flavor a lot more than if you just brew coffee hot, kind of like how french pressing coffee makes the coffee taste 100% times better. Now I have a nice size pitcher sitting in the fridge waiting for me to drink it throughout the days. I'm actually kind of ashamed of myself for never doing this before. It is so easy and makes getting my morning cup of coffee so quick. So here is the recipe. The best part is you can use any kind of coffee with this. Decaf, regular, half decaf half full, or flavored. I am looking forward to making a big pitcher of decaf iced coffee next to drink throughout the afternoons.
Iced Coffee
1/2 C. coarse ground coffee (really any grind will do as long as you have a good filter)
2 1/2 C. water
Put the ground coffee in a large container that has a lid. Then mix in 1/2 C. of water. Stir it until the grounds are covered. Then add in the other 2 cups of water. Put the lid on. Let it sit at room temperature for 12 hours or overnight. Then strain it through a coffee filter into a large pitcher if it seems cloudy strain it a second time, then add 2 cups of water to that. Now all you have to do is fill a cup with ice pour the coffee over it add a splash of milk and enjoy :)
I did have pictures of this but blogger is not allowing me to add them. Not that you need pictures to see what ice coffee looks like ;)
You made me laugh out loud! That is something I would totally do. :)
