What a week

I think this may be the first time I ever say I am thankful it is Monday and the start of a new week. And also, I am so glad the Lord makes everything anew again. Our week last week started off great and ended with a horrible sickness called hand foot and mouth disease. Awful. But there were definitely some good moments sprinkled amidst the screams. Lets get started on a recap:

~1~ Strawberry season is in full swing at our house. It is delicious. Strawberry jam making, strawberry coffee cake, muffins, shortcakes, and just plain ole' strawberry eating has begun.
One night worth of strawberry picking...

~2~ Beautiful storms that rolled in producing nickel size hail and amazing lightning. Make me love living in the Midwest.

~3~ Hand foot and mouth disease struck our sweet boy. It is definitely a disease from satan, I mean aren't all diseases but this one in particular is heart breaking to see. 104* fever, sores in mouth, sores on feet and hands and bottom. And then sores over the rest of his body. On top of that joint pain. It was awful to watch and not be able to do anything but hold him and love on him.
Start of the sores on his feet (sorry these are all IPhone pictures so they aren't the best to see)
How we spent most of the day Thursday and Friday...cuddling and whispering secrets to his sweet baby sister. Saturday and Sunday he wanted nothing to do with me and just wanted daddy.

~4~ Our saving grace this weekend. Friday night we got a total of 1.5 hours of sleep. It was brutal.

~5~ Luckily, the weekend ended with a beautiful baby shower hosted by some of the ladies in House Church. Seriously I am so blessed to have these women in my life and to help raise our sweet little lady. What a great cloud of witnesses to surround my daughter in. Also, a great group of men to surround our son in.
Isn't that just a beautiful set up? You all know I love food and the food table was awesome including a chocolate fountain...yum!

~6~ Finally we are very interested in the potty these days but not so much going in it. LB loves to drag it out of the bathroom showing it to everyone who comes over. He loves to sit on it and pretend to poop. He tells me he is pooping when he really is but has no interest in actually using the potty to relief himself. I know he is still young but I dreamt he would be potty trained by the time little miss entered the world. At least he is interested in it. Baby steps here.
Multiple times a day he runs into his room grabs a book of the shelf, runs to the bathroom, sits on the potty and tells me poop poop. At least he is getting the concept right? And I love that he has already figured out the man way of using the bathroom... (im sure he will thank me later for this picture)

Miscellany Monday

Today is one of those days that call for a random update. So I'm linking up with Carissa over at lowercase letters. This new blogger layout has me all confused so no button today.

~1~ We spent Wednesday morning getting our garden put in. W has been working some crazy hours so he had the morning off and we figured there was no better time to get it done. We ended up planting 6 different types of pepper plants, 5 tomato plants, 1 spinach plant, 6 celery plants, 1 eggplant plant, on top of our already planted blueberry bushes and strawberries. I can't wait for harvest season to begin! And it looks like this year our strawberries will come in early which means I will actually have time to enjoy them before little miss comes along!
Helping carry plants to their home
Spreading the dirt around
Look at all the strawberry blooms already!

~2~ This past weekend we spent our first night away from LB. It was wonderful! I'm not going to lie and say I didn't miss him like crazy but it was so so good to get a night away with my man and actually get to connect with one another for an extended time. We went to a super fancy restaurant for dinner, stayed at a really nice hotel, and just lounged around. We ended up laying in bed until 10am when we finally decide we should get ready before the 11am check out. Then we went to the zoo and took in an IMAX movie before grabbing lunch and heading home. A night away did our hearts good. I missed my man. And it was beyond wonderful to know LB was having a blast with some of his best friends. The Lord has blessed us with a great house church and one of the couples offered to take LB off our hands for a night so we could get a night away. How could we refuse? Not only our they great friends of ours but LB absolutely loves them. I only ended up taking 3 pictures and all of them on my phone. Oops.
Our fancy dinner
Taking in an IMAX in 3D (try not to be too jealous of our hotness) ;)

~3~ LB has figured out how to start my car. He even knows what key goes to mine and how to turn it on. I'm guessing this is going to be trouble in the years to come.
beep beep

~4~ I have been craving peanut butter cookies, but since LB has a peanut allergy I haven't been able to have them. Until last night. I finally decided to try sunflower butter in place of peanut butter for cookies. And my oh my they are so good! I really cannot tell they aren't the original thing. It probably also helps that I added chocolate chips to them. I mean really when does chocolate not make a cookie better?! So take that nut allergy! :)

~5~ Well LB is up from his nap. Yes nap at 8:30 in the morning. This crazy kid has thought that waking up at 5:30 is the new norm. I disagree strongly and am really hoping that it is just due to those pesty 2 year molars coming in. Have a blessed day!

Thoughts for Thursday

Life has been moving rather quickly around here lately leaving this mama wiped by the end of the night. Lots of things going on and lots of fun now that spring has sprung.

~1~ We moved LB to his toddler bed Sunday night! So far it has been a huge success! He loves it. It makes me a little sad how easy the transition was because it now officially means my baby is no longer a baby but a full grown toddler.  He has taken all his naps and bedtime in there without a peep. Although this morning I found him laying by his toy box and his cheek was dotted with the carpet, meaning he slept there for part of the night. But as long as he is quiet I'm not going to push the staying in bed part. Growing too fast on me for sure.

~2~ We had an ultrasound for little miss last Thursday. She still didn't give us a face shot but she was oh so cute. Sucking her thumb, waving at us, giving me some good kicks, and best of all she flipped herself so she is now head down ::praise the Lord:: But we did find out I have a small complication which isn't cause for alarm but could stunt her growth so we will have to keep an eye on it. Apparently, I have pools of blood inside the uterus, in most cases they disappear naturally but if they continue to grow they could stop her from growing. Although, she is still measuring 2 weeks ahead which would land her to be born on our anniversary. So far it looks like the blood pools haven't stopped her.
Sweet lil miss sucking her thumb

~3~ On vacation LB fell in love. He was smitten for this little lady and they often were caught hugging and kissing one another.  I couldn't get enough of the cuteness and can't wait to show these two lovebirds pictures when they are older ;)
 adorable

~4~ Anyone else as excited as me that Easter candy has hit the shelves? I should really buy stock in starburst jellybeans. They are my favorite and I love all the displays full of them. Although, I will admit I miss getting reeses peanut butter eggs. But the sacrifice is worth it to never see LB swollen up again. But I'm thinking of convincing W to buy me one during a date night.

~5~ I can't wait for this weekend to arrive. We are going to get plants for the garden and new flowers for the front. I love spring time and all the colors coming into bloom. But most of all I love planning our garden knowing that our table is going to be full of home-grown goodness in a few short months.

~6~ We finally picked out lil misses verse. This may be my favorite part of decorating the nursery. LB's verse has been so fitting for him and each day he has us read it to him and lights up at the thought of God's angels watching over him (Psalm 91:11). I can't wait to have those moments with lil miss, putting her to bed while reading her verse over and over again over her. Her room is coming together beautifully and hopefully by the end of the month it'll be finished so I can post a nursery blog for you all.

Monday Miscellany

Joining in with the lovely Carissa this morning to bring you some randoms of my life.
Miscellany Monday @
lowercase letters

~1~ LB is actually sleeping in this morning after this weekend that is a big plus. He woke up at 3:30AM on Saturday and would not go back to sleep no matter what we tried. I blame it on us putting him to bed in his superman pajamas.

~2~ One week from today we find out the sex of this new peanut. I cannot wait!! I am so ready to get baby's room painted and together and pick out a name. :)

~3~ LB received his first buzz cut this weekend. I am not going to lie I miss his long thick hair. I let W have the scissors again and I just couldn't live with the results so we buzzed it.

Such a sweet smile and now he looks so grown up

~4~ I decided to start de-cluttering our house this past week. Which resulted in 7 bags of clothes and purses and shoes being donated to Goodwill. It feels good to get it out of our house but I won't lie that part of me wants to go get some of the shoes back. The sad part is we still have more to go through. I don't know how we ended up with so much stuff. Or kept so many random things. Like t-shirts from freshmen year of high school. I have been out of h.s. for 10 years now. No clue why I have clothes that are older than that!

~5~ My mom is all settled into her apartment and had an interview this past week. Pray they find favor on her. It is exactly what she wants to be doing and she loved the people she met there. The interview took about 2 hours and they were very nice with her and let her know they had other interviews already lined up so they couldn't make a decision yet but really liked her. Pray that favor is found and she will get the job. I know it would help her enjoy her new home so much better.

~6~ A nasty nasty winter cold smacked us in the face this past week. Which resulted in LB finally comprehending how to blow his nose into tissues (not just onto random objects like mommy and daddy's shirts, pants, stuffed animals, etc). So I guess there always is a silver lining.

~7~ I have been craving pineapples again. Which resulted in me buying 3 yesterday. And almost finishing off a whole pineapple myself on Saturday. I guess it's better than craving ice cream.

~8~ I made a really great vegetable soup last week after I realized we had tons of vegetables hitting the brink of expiration. I need to do that more often. I usually just cut the veggies up and then freeze them for stirfry or to toss with pasta. But I loved this soup so I will definitely be doing it more. What do you all do with your leftover vegetables?
Start of the soup

~9~ I cannot believe it is January with the weather we have been having. Today is suppose to be in the 60's. 60's y'all. For a midwest gal that is beautiful! I am hoping LB gets nice and rested so we can trek out to the zoo today and then maybe to the park this afternoon. Gotta soak up all the warmth we can because I am sure winter will be coming sometime. I just hope it doesn't come in March or April.

~10~ Any big superbowl plans? I really only watch for the commercials and of course to eat all the food.  This year I think I'm going to try out a few pinterest finds. I mean since I pin so many things on there I should at least try a few of them out :)

If you made it through all ten of those completely random tidbits of my life give yourself a pat on the back. I was not planning on rambling off that many. Now time to go make myself a cup of tea before baby bear awakes from his slumber. Have a blessed week everyone!

Random Tuesday Rambles

I intended on posting this yesterday but got a little distracted. So instead of joining in miscellany monday I'm doing it on tuesday this week. Check out Carissa's sweet blog and join in yourself.
Miscellany Monday @

~1~ I am not one to make many resolutions at the start of a new year. I've learned that when I do I end up failing at most of them. So this year I decided to set weekly and monthly goals. I think that might be more manageable for me. We shall see. This week's goal is to organize our closet and clean out my dresser. {gulp} Overall goal of the month is to make our room a pleasant place to be. See, I tend to neglect the cleaning of our room. I work to keep the appearance of a clean house but since no one sees our room I figure it doesn't have to be neat. I am learning though that to have a happy relaxed husband our room needs to be in order too. So this month I am working on that. I am not brave enough to show you a before and after picture of this project but maybe the next one I will.
~2~ This past week we went back in time and got our first land line. Kind of weird to hear a phone ring. But I think I like it. I mean it is convenient when I misplace my cell phone to be able to grab it off the wall and call myself only to find out my cell was in my back pocket the whole time. (don't say you have never done that, please)
~3~Hubs went out and bought me an IPhone. I didn't really need an Iphone as I am sure most people don't need them but it is very nice to have. I am definitely having fun downloading all the couponing apps and can't wait to see what kind of savings will come from them! Speaking of, I am going to try and restart posting my bi-monthly menu plan on here again. Try being the key word. I would love to get more organized with menu planning and actually be able to have a list of go to meals for us. As of now, I do grocery shop and have a rough plan of what I will make each night but normally by the time dinner arrives I am trying to mix things up and reinvent dishes. For example, I decided it would be a great idea to cook up a bunch of chicken in the crockpot of stir-fry. Sounds like a good plan, right? But the problem is shredded chicken gives stir-fry way to weird of a texture making it totally un-enjoyable to eat. And you should enjoy eating. Lesson learned save the crock-pot shredded chicken for things like enchiladas and sandwiches.
~4~ LB has been on a major smoothie kick. He walks up to me multiple times a day and asks for a "soothie". I think his favorite part is watching the blender go around and around. I don't mind this kick though as I love smoothies and always like to sneak more healthy things in his diet. Lately I have been adding wheat germ to his smoothies and he hasn't noticed one bit.
~5~ Lastly, LB's back molars are coming thru. And these ones seem to be taking the longest of all. It has been about 3 weeks and I still only see the white of one trying to pop thru. Maybe that's why they call them the 2 year molars because they take forever to pop thru. Which means our house is full of a drooling toddler who on any given day can be running a fever and most likely has a fountain of snot pouring out his nose. Lovely right?
~6~ Oh wait one more thing. My mom got an apartment! I am so excited for her. I know she was just miserable living out of a tiny hole of a hotel room and now she will have a place to call home here. She has been getting a little depressed not having a home or job, now at least one of those is taken care of. If you think about it pray a job would come her way soon too. The one she had for a few days was awful and she had to leave, they were paying her pennies and expecting her to do way to much for them. So she had to quit. I don't blame her, I would have quit too.
Baby update still to come this week. Once I remember to have hubs take a picture of this belly. :)

Monday Randoms

It's been a while since I did a random update for you all and boy do I have lots of random thoughts today.

~1~ We took LB to an allergist last week and did the long skin prick test with him to find out just exactly what he is allergic to. Good news is he came back only being allergic to walnuts but it is a very severe allergy to them. So we are still advised to avoid all treenuts. And because his blood test came back with the slightest positive for peanuts we must avoid those to for now. BUT the best news of all was the doctor is very optimistic that if we avoid all treenuts and peanuts for a few years he will be able to tolerate them by school age! Huge blessing.

~2~ On Saturday my MIL came in town and watched LB for us for the afternoon. It was wonderful. W and I went out to lunch then got all of LB's Christmas shopping done. It feels good to be finished with his gifts. Now to get in gear and finish the rest of our list.

~3~ Last week was a snowy one for us. It was beautiful snow though so I couldn't complain too much. We took LB out this weekend to play in it and he LOVED it. The only thing that made him happy about being indoors was the hot chocolate I made for him. He took the cup of it and shut himself behind a door to enjoy it, must've thought if we saw him drinking something that good we were going to take it away ;)

~4~ Our house church adopted a family for Christmas. I am so excited to show LB that Christmas is about blessing others and sharing the love and goodness of Christ with them. I am thankful that we get to do this as a group this year and as a group get to go meet this family. I think so often we get wrapped up in blessing our own family for Christmas that we forget the true meaning of Christmas. I am excited to start this new tradition with LB and our house church. Not only does it bless a family in need but it reminds us of the charity Christ has given to us freely, undeservingly, and wonderfully.

~5~ Little love just woke up, so I gotta go start my day. But if you haven't read the story of Jesus' birth yet this season spend some time in Luke 1 and 2. I have been reading those 2 chapters all month and it is life changing. I will soon update you all on what the Lord is teaching me through those words but man are they powerful. I am in awe of how God chose to send His son down to earth and how wonderfully He orchestrated it all. Beautiful, powerful love.

Monday Miscellany

Today's post is brought to you by the random happenings of our last week. Enjoy :)

~1~ LB picked out his outfit for halloween. He was the cutest train I ever did see.
See so cute :)
Daddy and LB ready to trick or treat

~2~ We had are first snow! It was 70* one day and the next snowing. Only in the Midwest. But luckily it was all gone by that night and warmed back up to the 60*. (although, we may get some more this week) It was such a beautiful snow fall. Big, beautiful flakes. I loved watching it come down and so did LB.
He sat there on his rocking airplane for awhile just watching the flakes fall.

~3~ I made a fall yarn wreath a few weeks back. I love it. I am now debating on what colors to do for a winter wreath. What do you all think...silver and red, cream and green, gold and white? Here's the place to learn how to do one yourself.
Perfect front door welcome to fall

~4~ How long is it acceptable to leave carved pumpkins on the doorstep? Ours is still out. See...

~5~ My mom and her boy still don't have jobs or an apartment. They are living at an extended stay up the road but still hang out over here most days and nights. Please pray they find something soon. Not just for my sake but for theirs ;)

Monday Miscellany

Y'all my life has gone crazy. The best way to sum it up for you guys is with a list. I'm hoping to soon get back in the groove of blogging until then you all will get inundated with recipes and pictures ;)

~1~ My mom has officially moved here! It's crazy guys. I haven't lived with her since I was 12! So we are having lots of fun catching up and chasing LB around. If you think about it pray for her....to find a job and a place to live. Also, pray that I will show her boyfriend love. I could write post upon post about him but I won't instead I will just ask for prayer for patience and kindness.

~2~ LB is getting too big. He has started running. His favorite time to do this is when I am mid diaper change... he will pop up and run off slamming doors in my face so that he can run around diaper-less. Sometimes he pees on the door too. Oh life with a toddler boy.

~3~ We spent this past weekend visiting our alma mater. It was wonderful, refreshing, and made us miss the days of little responsibility.
Campus shot:
 Cutest Wildcat at the tailgate:
Attempted to take some family shots but LB wasn't going for it so we took a couples shot instead ;)

~4~ LB had his first "real" haircut this past week. Now he definitely looks like a little boy and not a baby anymore.
before haircut:
After haircut:

~5~ I'm spent y'all. So much I want to update you guys on but LB just went down for a nap and I have a mountain of laundry to do from our weekend...seriously how does 2 days of being gone create so much more work?

Hope you all enjoy your last day of October! Hop on over to Carissa's blog and join in the miscellany.

Monday Miscellany

~1~ We have been having so much fun doing fall activities around here. Going to pumpkin patches, bonfires with the neighbors, eating our fill of pumpkin goodness, and enjoying the crisp morning air.
~2~ While at a recent pumpkin patch we found a big ol' tire swing. LB loved it. It was hard to get him out to give other kids a chance at the fun.
~3~ My very first 5K is this Saturday! I am hoping to complete it in less than 30 minutes, but we shall see. I have been running between 2-3 miles every other day and I have found I really am enjoying running. I never thought I would get to the point where I crave running but I think I am there. Now I can see how people get addicted to running. But I figure its probably a good addiction to have. Balance out my addiction to sweets ;)

~4~ My mom is moving to my city in about a week! Holy moly, I am not sure I am ready for this! W and I have never lived closer than an hour to our family and that was only during our first year of marriage. Every since then we have been separated at least by 1 state from them. Plus, I haven't lived in the same town as my mom since I was 10. It will be quite the adjustment but I am excited to have her near and I know LB will love having someone else around on the cold dreary winter days. It will just take some time getting use to.

~5~ I have been reading The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown. It is a book I typically wouldn't read but its for bookclub so I am trucking along. I finished about half the book yesterday and I still don't know how I feel about it. I enjoy all the Shakespearean references but I am not sure I like how in about 70 pages it has only has touched on 2 days. It is an easy book to get lost in and picture exactly what is going on and what the sisters look like, where they live, and how they interact so I do enjoy that part. I am just hoping the next 150 pages moves through more than a week of time. What books are you all getting lost in these days?

~6~ I made some awesome Pumpkin Chocolate Chip muffins this weekend. Oh my they are so good! I think I will have to make up another batch today so we have them for the week. In my opinion there is nothing better than pumpkin and chocolate...combine the two and its heavenly.

Monday Randoms

So much I want to blog about. But for now I have to clean and do laundry and enjoy the last bit of warm weather before winter hits. Last year our first snowfall was this upcoming weekend...luckily this weekend is suppose to be in the 70's but I know snow is not far off.

{1} I want to share with you all my dear friend Sara over at Confessions of a Hopeless Bookworm, {an awesome mama of 3 sweet, rambunctious, and joyful kiddos who also happens to be working full time} decided to take me up on my challenge to begin a bloggy book club. She will pick out the first book and announce it on her blog Friday. Hop on over there to read more details and I will post again Friday when she announces her selection, which I am sure will be great :)

{2} This weekend was spent visiting W's family to celebrate a cousins 1st birthday. here is one super sweet picture from this weekend's trip:
LB loves giving out kisses and here he is giving one to his cousin Colton who just turned 1!
(Happy Birthday Colty)

{3} For those who asked about where I get coupons from here is my post about that from awhile back. I also find some great coupons from here and here and of course facebook has some great deals, if you just search a company they usually have a tab for coupons. (Last week I was able to print a $1/one naked juice just by liking naked juice on fb)

{4} I attended my first fish fry this weekend. It was delicious and now all I want to eat is homemade hushpuppies.

{5} I have had so many hairstyle flops lately I don't even want to post them. But in the spirit of the experiment I will do a post on one of them this week. Please send me ideas that will work with thick hair ;)

{6} Finished reading The Help this weekend. So so good. Can't wait to go see the movie.  Any good books I should start next?

Monday Randoms

Our life has turned a bit busy around here this last week. Probably due to just returning from vacay and the little one figuring out how to run. Oh boy, let the games begin! So I'm linking up with the lovely Carissa to bring you some miscellanies.
Hop on over and join in the fun.
Miscellany Monday @

{1} Last Monday I had the fun opportunity of shooting and editing a first birthday party for some dear friends. I had so much fun doing it. Their little girl is adorable and the party was a perfect pink party for a little girl. Here is one of my favorite pictures of the cake smash:
{2} LB is figuring out so much these days. It has been such a joy to watch him learn and concur new task. Some of them scare me. Like his need to climb on top of everything. His favorite thing to do is push the chair in his room up next to the window and then climb up the chair and onto the window ledge. The other day he was trying to attempt a jump from the window to his crib. Not looking forward to him figuring that one out.

{3} LB has become quite the helper lately. He loves to push the step stool around to wherever we may be and help. While doing the dishes he encouraged daddy by saying"rub rub rub". So cute

{4} The Lord has been telling me no a lot. To things He normally says yes to. It's been a humbling experience to hear God say no to things I love. I know it is for a good reason though, even if I can't imagine what those reasons are now. Luckily, He has been blessing me in so many ways and giving me beautiful clouds, sunsets, and sunrises to remember how great He is.

{5} As you all may have gathered I love Pumpkin Spice Lattes. I have been working on recreating an at home version. I've tried just about every at home version that is published on the web but none of them get it just right. So in the meantime, as to not blow my whole budget, I have been ordering a Coffee Misto with pumpkin spice syrup. It taste very similar but cost about half the price. So if you are a PSL lover like me, give this one a try. Also, another Starbucks secret (from a former partner) order a kids steamer with pumpkin spice in it then take it home brew a cup of coffee and pour half the steamer into it. It'll make at least 2 drinks and cost you under $2. I order the kids steamer for LB and he drinks about 2 sips so the rest goes to my cup. Win-win :)

{6} I've been slacking on the hairdos. The sickies have been flying around our house this week and weekend which left me little time to do much except take care of my men. I'll try to do a style or two this week to make up for it. But I have been straightening and leaving my hair down more. That's a step, right? ;) And just to prove it here is a picture of LB and I with my hair done. (Doesn't LB look thrilled to be taking a picture with me ;))

Monday Miscellany

Busy weekend calls for a little miscellany recap. Summertime seems to be the busiest time of year. I think all the daylight makes me more productive and motivated. Probably doesn't help that all the sunlight beaming in the house makes me notice every speck of dust that needs cleaned up. But for now I will ignore the dust and recap the weekend :)

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters
~1~This weekend I tried about 5 different things on my hair and not one of them worked. I think its because I own a total of 2 bobby-pins. Looks like its time to take a trip to Target and stock up on a few hair essentials so I can really do this challenge. Here is the one thing I did do that worked.
I just added a little curl enhancing foam to my hair after it hair-dried a bit. Think I may need to do it for a few days in order for it to really get those sexy-been-on-the-beach-curls without actually going to the beach.
~2~ Hubs took his hand at my camera this weekend to shoot LB doing his favorite activity. Playing under our table.
Apparently I didn't feel the need to move out of the way of the shot and not lay on the chair myself.

~3~ Its been over 100* here the past few days with awful humidity. So of course I decided it was time to pressure can some tomato sauce. Seriously y'all I don't know what I was thinking besides that I was craving pasta in a bad way. If you have never pressure canned just think about boiling water and letting the steam fill your house for about an hour. Nothing like adding more humidity to the already humid air. Oh well, we now have 8 quarts of sauce ready to go. I made 10 but one didn't seal and the other one I used to make up homemade lasagna. I figured if the house was already a sauna why not turn on the oven. ;)

~4~ Lately for breakfast LB and I have been eating this.
Fresh raspberries, plain vanilla yogurt, and sweetened with just a bit of raw local honey. So good.

~5~ I've picked up running again. Well let me rephrase that...I want to start running more. Now that LB wakes up at 6am almost everyday I decided after breakfast we would take a run to his favorite park, play on the swings there, and run home in time for his morning nap. Again, I don't know what has gotten into me that makes me want to do really hot things when it is blazingly hot and humid outside. But something about summertime motivates me to do things. Call me strange but I actually like running when it is hot out.
That's all I have for this Monday. Hope you all have a blessed week.
