A week away

I decided last week to pack the kids up and spend a few days in Kansas. I'm not quite sure what overcame me and made me decide to drive 3 hours with a 7 week old and a 2 year old but I did and I survived. Luckily, my mom had off work so she made the drive with me making it much easier especially when we got caught in rush hour traffic and both kids decided to scream their heads off. That was the longest hour ever, especially because there was no where I could get off to calm the kiddos.
W loved having a few days to himself at home to work on projects and deep clean the house for me. It was so great to return home to a freshly painted basement a clean house and a broken up shower. Yes I did say a broken shower. See we are remodeling our master bath and I cannot be more excited to get it finished. Sharing a bathroom with a toddler is not much fun especially when toys are all around you as you try to take a much needed shower but we will survive it.
It was fun to get to Kansas and introduce AB to so many dear friends. It makes me long for the day when we return there. LB had a blast seeing friends and family but every night around 7pm he begged me to return home. It was such a sad thing to hear his little voice crying out for daddy and for home. I almost caved every night but I knew the longer we lasted the more projects daddy would complete for us.
The best part of the trip was seeing my best friend after she gave birth to their new son, Cale. She had her first baby in south Africa so we didn't get to meet her until she was 4 months old. It was so great getting to see him as a newborn and cuddle him. What a difference 7 weeks makes. AB seems so grown up compared to him and it's only a few weeks difference. It definitely made me realize just how quick the newborn phase is. Even though when you are in the thick of it it seems to drag on forever. It really does end fast! AB has already started showing her independence and doesn't want to be cuddled unless she is nursing. I was hoping she would be like her big brother and let me cuddle her all the time, but no such luck.
So yes, we had a week away. It was crazy but fun. Not sure I will do it again when the kids are this little but we all survived and now LB is addicted to fruit snacks, my bribing tool during the trip.
My favorite picture from the trip is LB having a nurf gun war with his Uncle John. He talked about it for days after. And now I know what LB and W will get for Christmas morning ;)

  2. Sounds like a wonderful trip even with two small children. Wish I would have been there to meet the little one. :) Let me know whenever you feel the urge to come to Oklahoma!
