LB is one. And had a rockin party to celebrate.
view from our backyard during the party
I am fully aware he won't remember it and he probably cared less about all the details at it. But I love hosting parties and I love opening our house to family and friends so I, of course, went all out to celebrate his day of birth and the fact that he is one. I had so much fun planning everything. Hubs thought I was too ambitious with my plans but they all worked out and it was a blast. Unfortunately, I failed to take pictures of all the details. I planned on walking around and taking pictures before everyone arrived but with all our family here got caught up in chatting with them and just plum forgot. Luckily, I did get pictures of the majority of the things and I hope more pictures will surface online from family, so if they do I will post them later.
Here are some of the details for those who want to know or want ideas.
First, on our front porch I had a chalkboard easel that I wrote "Happy First Birthday LB" on. I did that instead of balloons or a big banner out front to welcome people with. (this is one of the details I don't have a picture of)
Then on the table leading out the front door I had favor bags for the LB's friends who came to take as the left.
I filled them with bubbles, chalk, and little party poppers
We did a robot and space theme so as people came up the stairs I had 3D glasses for them to put on and a banner was hung in the doorway that was in 3D, as well as the plates and napkins. I didn't get a picture of this one either, but I think one may surface soon...or at least one of us adults rocking our glasses ;)
I made 3 kinds of cupcakes. Chocolate, vanilla, and mini roasted banana ones. I also made up smores on a stick! They are delicious and so easy to make. I also had a fruit tray, a vegetable tray, chips and salsa, pasta salad, and watermelon. I tried to keep the food simple and just put out a lot of LB's favorite foods.
The clothesline is filled with pictures of LB from birth thru his first year. That picture at the front of the table is of him smashing his cake from our photo session the week before (I will do a post of those pics soon). After everyone arrived and started eating food we took LB on the deck to do his smash cupcake. (i just made a large muffin sized cupcake for him instead of a round cake)
He wanted to make sure everyone knew he was one ;)
But LB would much rather eat watermelon then the cupcake...I won't complain ;)
We then headed out back where we had set up baby pools and a big beach ball sprinkler. We also set up a bubble machine and all the babies had a blast splashing in the water and wobbling through the bubble machine.
We had so much fun celebrating LB with family and close friends. I wouldn't have done anything different. It was great to watch LB enjoy everyone who came out to celebrate him. He even took a nice long nap once all his friends left.
And here is the only picture we managed to take of us 3...too bad LB wasn't looking
He looks so cute in his party hat! And, definitely a great thing that he prefers fruit to cake!
