Poor LB is dealing with another ear infection. Breaks this momma's heart. Apparently the doctor is baffled that he is having all these issues since he is breastfed and in a smoke-free home. (Please tell me none of you smoke, especially in your house with kiddos because lets face it we all know smoking causes cancer and all sorts of problems not just for you the smoker but for everyone around.) Not helpful doc. Well until we got into the way LB nurses. Apparently, I am doing it wrong and therefore causing fluid to build up in his nasal passages which causes his ears to get infected. Awesome. Just what a mom needs to hear. (Please note the sarcasm) So the past few days I have been trying to break LB of his favorite position in order to help his ears. This is not easy. It has ended in lots of bites to mommy and lots of tears.
If any of you are wondering what position causes such problems... Laying down is the answer. See when LB was a few months old and dealing with all the milk allergy stuff he would gag and choke constantly unless he was laying down. So therefore I began nursing that way. It was so easy especially at night because he would fall asleep and I could just carry him into his bed asleep or I could dose off and wake up an hour later to remember he was next to me and take him into his crib. Well I guess it is not good to do that for a prolonged period of time. So now I am in this situation. Contemplating switching to a bottle because I'm not sure I can handle those 6 pointy teeth fighting with me every feeding. But he fights the bottle even harder. So as the saying goes I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I'm going to give it 10 more days before I decide anything. I think its like 10 days to break a habit or something like that. So I will stick it out that long and if the biting and screaming persist I have to think of another solution. So if you think about it pray for LB, his ears, and his stubborn personality (no clue where he got that one ;)). Also, if you have any advice on weening let me know. Please and thank you.
AND also, have a blessed and happy Easter. This is a time of great rejoicing for us as believers! Christ rising from the dead changed the world forever and showed us God's undying love for us! Nothing is sweeter than that.
well that is how I nurse too (at least at night)...so I may be in trouble soon. Good to know. Better to stop earlier than later. Hang in there. It is good to set a small goal so it makes it less frustrating. You have done an awesome job bf for 10 months and if it has to end then don't beat yourself up over it. I had to stop with Lo at 10 months b/c evidently my milk supply dropped drastically low and she loss 2# w/o me realizing it, so while she never in her life took a bottle before she did at this age. Probably b/c she was starving. :) Anyways I wasn't ready to stop even though I wanted to and I was so emotional about it. Just be prepared for the emotional upheaval that ensues whenever you stop. Stupid hormones. :) Praying for you!
ReplyDeleteHa, don't you just LOVE hearing stuff like that... Well the good news is that you can do something about it and most likely won't need tubes now right....? I just slowly took away a feeding at a time and inserted a snack. I didn't think she needed formula. I gave her a gerbers snack. you know those little puffs? Anyway, it's pretty painful on mommy when you want to nurse but shouldn't.... ack!
