A proverb a day...

Do you think God put Proverbs in the bible to remind us of all the things we do wrong? Cause man when I read that book I just think... fail. Yesterday I was reading Proverbs 27, cause it was the 27th day of the month and for some reason I think I need to read a proverb everday according to the date on the calender :)

So anyway I came across these verses:
" A quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping on a rainy day;  restraining her is like restraining the wind
or grasping oil with the hand. " 15-16
I began to wonder if this is the kind of wife I am and do I sound like a constant drip but then I read this verse:

"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." 17
And it gave me hope that maybe just maybe I was more like this. That I am not a constant drip but a woman who sharpens her husband and in turn get sharpened by him.
In fact "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" was Wade and I's wedding verse... and in fact has become a life verse for us.

But I'm afraid if I am being honest with myself I would more often fall into how verses 15-16 describes a woman. Not all the time and not in big ways... but I think it is easier for us to vent to our spouses about life then think of how to say things in a way that encourage our spouse, even when life is hard.. (or at least for me it is)
I am so thankful that God puts these gentle, or sometimes not so gentle, reminders in His word to us. He reminds us that He loves us and wants the best for us and in order to give us the best we must be disiplined and take correction when we are failing to live up to the picture He paints for His people.
I do love how these verses are wrote. It's like God is saying... here is what you are doing wrong and here is how to fix it. He is reminding us to be ones that sharpen each other and not ones that let the weight of our daily lifes bring us down. So glad God is always on our side.
